PSC Russian-language – International Multimedia Journalist

VOA’s Russian Service is looking for a dynamic and creative multimedia journalist to carry on the Service’s mission of informing, engaging and connecting our Russian-speaking audiences.

As a multimedia journalist, you will cover news in Washington and in the U.S. for the Russian-speaking audience and will be responsible for generating story ideas, as well as making and maintaining contacts with newsmakers in America and in the target region. The multimedia journalist must be able to develop and present reports and in a clear, concise and objective manner. S/he must be a team player with solid news judgment, and must be able to develop an original multimedia story from conception to publication. S/he must be able to work independently with the camera, have the ability to write, edit video for their own story, and to interact with the viewers through all of VOA Russian media platforms.

Major Duties:

  • Produce, report and edit assigned stories daily, gather information, conduct interviews, shoot and edit video, performing in front and behind the camera
  • Generate content for newscasts through a variety of contacts and social media channels
  • As assigned maintain VOA Russian’s active and consistent presence across all platforms, including producing content for our digital outlets
  • Work with VOA Russian Service Chief and managers and the team of reporters in the U.S and elsewhere, analyzing social media metrics to develop strategy to maximize digital engagement
  • Promote and deliver positive work atmosphere by means of professional manners, mutual respect and clear communication with supervisors, peers, newsmaker contacts and audience
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong journalistic standards and ethics
  • Proven storytelling ability across all platforms
  • Functional to advanced knowledge in the use of field cameras, gear and editing systems
  • Two to five years as multimedia/video journalist in TV, performing in front and behind the camera
  • Proven live interviewing /reporting skills and accuracy
  • Strong knowledge of computer-based video production and editing principles
  • Fully bilingual: fluency in oral and written English and Russian languages
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in newsroom computer systems and applications
  • Understanding of social media metrics
  • Ability to translate and interpret between English and Russian
  • Well versed in Russian, U.S. and international news and current affairs
  • Ability to perform well under pressure, manage breaking news situations, meet strict deadlines, and respond quickly to changes
  • Flexible to work any assigned shift, including overnights, evening and weekends
